What are Ear Nuts?

Ear nuts, also called as earring backs or push earring backs. The ear nuts on our website are designed with a hole in the center, so you can push and slide them onto the earring posts or ear wires to keep your earrings securely in place on your ears.

Different Styles of Ear Nuts

Friction Ear Nuts

  • Friction ear nuts, also called as butterfly ear nuts, use the tension of the metal to hold the posts firmly. With a hole in the middle of the base plate, you can slide the friction ear nut onto the post until it touches the earlobe, making it very easy to put on and take off.
  • Butterfly ear nuts will bring beautiful back design to your earrings and are mainly fit for stud earrings.
  • Please note that it can easily lose its grip on the post after prolonged use.

Bullet Ear Nuts

  • Bullet ear nuts are made of metal and often lined with soft rubber, which makes them fixed onto the posts securely.
  • The bullet earring backs will be fixed tightly on the posts, making them very secure and comfortable to wear.
  • They are mainly fit for post earrings and hook earrings.

Bell Ear Nuts

  • Bell ear nuts are usually made of silicone or rubber, they are comfortable to wear and user-friendly for wearers with metal sensitivities.
  • The clear earring backs are invisible behind your earlobe and will make your front earring design more emphasized and noticed.
  • They are mainly fit for post earrings and hook earrings.

Special Shaped Ear Nuts

  • In addition to the common bell shaped ear nuts, there are various special shaped ear nuts, such as tube, heart, flower, round, star and polygon.
  • They are mainly fit for post earrings and hook earrings.

Comfort Clutch Ear Nuts

  • Comfort clutch ear nuts are bullet ear nuts with clear plastic discs. The round discs are used to support and distribute the weight of heavier studs, increasing the stability of the earrings and effectively preventing the heavier earrings from sagging.
  • They are mainly fit for heavier stud earrings.

Belt Ear Nuts

  • With metal belt decor, belt ear nuts are more eye-catching. When paired with earrings, they will make your whole earrings look more shiny.
  • They are mainly fit for post earrings and hook earrings.

Silicone Cover Ear Nuts

  • Silicone cover earring backs are made by adding silicone to standard earring backs, such as friction ear nuts and bullet ear nuts, which will add more tension to the metal earring backs and give a firm grip on earring posts.
  • They are mainly fit for post earrings and hook earrings.

Full-covered Ear Nuts

  • Full-covered ear nuts are designed to cover the sharp ends of the earring posts, so the ends of the posts or hooks will not poke or scratch the back of your ears when you're using the phone or sleeping.
  • They are mainly fit for post earrings.

Tips: You can also choose ear nut kits, which contains various styles of ear nuts in one box to meet your various needs.

Difference Between Ion Plating (IP)
and PVD Vacuum Plating

Our stainless steel jewelry undergoes three types of electroplating processes: PVD vacuum plating, ion plating (IP), and water electroplating. Vacuum plating, also known as physical vapor deposition (PVD), is a surface treatment technology. This process involves evaporating or sputtering metal or non-metal materials under vacuum conditions and depositing them onto the surface of the object to create a thin film. PVD technology includes various coating methods, with ion plating (IP) being one of them. Ion plating (IP) is a physical vapor deposition (PVD) process that is sometimes called ion assisted deposition (IAD) or ion vapor deposition (IVD) and is a modified version of vacuum deposition.

The thickness of the plating layer is influenced by the electroplating process and duration. The longer the plating time, the thicker the layer becomes, resulting in longer color preservation.

Below is a brief comparison of the color durability of Ion Plating, PVD Vacuum Plating, and Water Galvanization.

Electroplating Process Feature Metal Color Color Durability
No Electroplating Stainless steel is a non-reactive metal, which means it does not oxidize or tarnish like other metals such as silver or brass. Hypoallergenic. Stainless Steel Color Tarnish resistant, retain its color for a long time
Vacuum Ion Plating(IP) The vacuum plating process is complex and requires specific environmental and equipment conditions, making it a green, environmentally friendly technology. The plating is done in a vacuum oven, resulting in longer color retention and a durable coating. Real Gold Plated
